An Experiment

Some readers may be familiar with the Pep Ventosa technique for making impressionistic photographs. In short, the subject is a stationary object and you make multiple photos from the same distance away in a circle around the object and then combine them in Photoshop using varying layer opacities and blending modes. I decided to try an experiment by inverting this technique.

I put a vase with five flowers in it on a Lazy Susan (remember those) and set up my camera on a tripod. I then took 36 photos of the vase with a bit of rotation for each photo. Thirty-six photos later the Lazy Susan made one complete revolution. I then took all 36 into Photoshop as layers and experimented with opacities and blending modes and got this:

This is definitely something I would like to experiment with further, as I think the result looks rather interesting.
