Framing Your Artwork

My Method Of Mounting And Framing Prints

I offer my Limited Edition Prints either unmounted or mounted to a cradled wood panel and framed using a floater frame, as seen on the left. I enjoy this presentation because it is different than traditional framing and presents the work without using a glass barrier between the art and the viewer. This allows for a more intimate viewing experience while also letting the art shine without distractions.

The process is a bit involved, but I did a series of blog posts some time ago describing the method as I developed it. If interested in learning more details about the process, you can read the description in my series of four blog posts here, here, here, and here.

Paintings are mounted within floater frames in the standard fashion.

The floater frames I use are heavyweight, sturdy, and made from wood, not plastic or MDF. I purchase them and mount your artwork myself. Because I order them and do the work by hand, it will take approximately 2 weeks to fulfill your order but, rest assured, I am working on making your artwork look beautiful! The two floater frame styles I use (depending on the thickness of the artwork) can be seen below.

Traditional Framing

I don’t offer traditional framing because of the plethora of frame styles that you might want for your home, as well as the difficulty and weight of shipping glass. Nonetheless, if you prefer traditional framing with glass, an unmounted print can be purchased and brought to a local frame shop.

Framing artwork can definitely be confusing. Should the work be displayed with the white border and signature showing, or should the matboard extend over the edge of the print, thereby hiding both the border and the signature? How many inches of matboard should be used? Should the matting be white or should it be a color that complements the art. How wide and ornate a frame should be used, and what color should it be?

Luckily, there are no right or wrong answers to these questions. While there are some general guidelines, the choices are, to a large degree, a matter of personal taste. In addition, the decor and style of your home or workplace will also play a role in these decisions.

Dimensions

The measurements given for each print are rounded to the nearest half inch and include the white border. The border allows the signature and variable amounts of the paper to be displayed, if so desired.

While I would be glad to make recommendations, for standard framing behind glass, bringing the print to a frame shop will likely give the best results, as the framer can discuss and show you all the available options to fit your decor.
